Kimono feels
I had such a great time shooting with the talented Megan Bilcock the other day and just wanted to share some of the fabulous photos she took! Megan is studying photography at University of Gloucestershire and I've included her contact details at the bottom of this post :)
Outfit deets: Jacket - Mango, Sneakers - ASOS, Jeans - ASOS, Top - ASOS White (#iloveasos)
If you're like me, there's nothing better than a box-fresh pair of trainers (I know all you USA readers are screaming "THEY'RE CALLED SNEAKERS" at me right now but seriously, they're called trainers lol) These ASOS Day Light Lace Up Trainers have a cotton upper and a chunky sole that gives them a bit of a 90's vibe.
I looooooove this jacket guys, like seriously it's so big and comfy, and I love the oriental floral print and the use of colour placement like the blue lining. The outer layer is 85% cotton and 15% linen and the lining is 100% cotton. It has dropped shoulder seams which give it the oversized, relaxed fit and the quilted fabric gives it a luxurious feel. I wear this in Summer and Winter and is a great transitional piece. I styled it with a cotton top from ASOS White which has a woven cross front - which I actually flung over my shoulders so that it dropped out beneath the hem of the jacket.
Mango is one of those brands that gets some bad press and some good. I bought this jacket in 2014 (I think) and have since done a lot of research about the brand - probably should have been the other way around but I'm learning as I go! I did some research on Project Just and found out that Mango offsets its carbon emissions by contributing to programs verified by the Voluntary Carbon Standard. However, they currently don't use any sustainable materials in their products which I feel is a bit behind the times now really... I hope that Mango can keep up with the Fashion Revolution and evolve their brand to become more eco-friendly than they already are!
Mango has signed the "Accord on Fire and Building Safety" in Bangladesh following the Rana Plaza disaster in 2013. The brand committed to the elimination of hazardous chemicals through participation in Greenpeace’s Detox Campaign. In 2011 Mango signed up to the Transparency Programme, which supports and encourages small and medium-sized companies to incorporate CSR in their company management. (all information correct as of 2015) Let me know what you think about Mango as a brand by leaving a comment below!
